Bright Starts Convertible Cart Cover Review

I have tried my hardest not to be a germ a phobe. My husband tells me all the time now to not freak out so much. Before my son was born I was way worse than I am now. I try to go with the flow a bit more. I did not buy a cart cover when my son was first born since I thought there is no way I would ever put him in one of those carts. My plan was to keep him in his stroller while I shop. Well motherhood has taught me that what I thought before I was a Mom is nothing of what the reality of being a mom is!! My son hates being in the stroller in a store. Outside or at the park he loves it but in the store he wanted to sit in the cart. The first time I let him was when it was pouring down rain and there was no way I would be able to get him in his stroller without him getting soaked.

I was a bit worried since the first thing he did was bite the cart handle that I am sure hundreds of people had touched. Well I did not let it bug me I figured and my husband pointed out, my mom raised 5 kids without a cart cover and we were fine! But after about two months of cart riding he did lick the handle and within an hour of returning home he was sick! I blamed the cart, I am sure it could have been something else and a cold here and there is good for his immune system. I still wanted a cart cover for the times when I think he needs one and for if he is sick he wont spread his germs all over the cart. I did not want a regular cart cover. Some of them seem very big and not as cute as I wanted. I found the Bright Starts Convertible Cart Cover and it is perfect for what I wanted. It is colorful and functions as a mini play mat too.

The Bright Starts cart cover also works for most restaurant high chairs. I like this function since my little boy has the tendency to wipe his hands all over any high chair I put him in. The cover made it easier to just pick up the cover toss it into a bag and wash it when we got home. It held up great in the wash and its easy to roll up and toss into the backseat of the car. When I rolled it out as a mat he jumped on it and started doing sit ups. He cracks me up with his workouts! You can buy this cute cart cover at Target, Toys R Us and Walmart for $19.99.

You can be a fan of Bright Starts on facebook. They are having a facebook contest to win the InGenuity Collection.

Poser My life In Twenty Three Yoga Poses by Claire Dederer Book Review

Poser My life In Twenty Three Yoga Poses, by Claire Dederer

This book is Claire Dederer's memoir about motherhood, marriage and her journey through the world of yoga. Ten years ago Dederer was a new mom living in a hip Seattle neighborhood. She finds out that in this particular neighborhood, parenting is elevated to a fine art. Organic baby food, attachment parenting, cloth diapers, and always letting your child sleep in your bed with you, are just some of the rules that must be followed. When she injures her back while breastfeeding her heavy baby, yoga is recommended by all.

From the very first class she falls in love with yoga. It becomes a path, a challenge, and a way to cope with the increasing difficulties of her stressed out life. Eventually yoga opens the door for Dederer to begin examining and questioning her past and present life. The story goes back and forth between her childhood in Seattle and now. Her own mother's story is a large part of the book, and is quite revealing. Dederer still has disturbing feelings from childhood about her parents unusual break-up and patched together new family.

Dederer's writing is honest, heartfelt, and sometimes painfully funny. Her struggles with marriage, family, in-laws and career are topics we can all relate to. This really isn't a how to book about learning or practicing yoga. It's more about using yoga to help guide the author through her life. In the end it sets her free to walk her own path and live her own truths. I found this book to be charming and quite interesting.

I also practice yoga and maybe that is one of the reasons why I like this book so much. I also felt that Dederer is the kind of person that you could call up and invite to the local cafe for a cup of coffee. She would most likely say yes, showing up, of course, in her yoga pants.

You can buy a copy of this book from Macmillan Publishing or other online stores such as Books A Million.

Alpha Tot ABC Poster Review and Giveaway

I have been looking for fun and educational posters and art work to put on the wall of my sons room. He often wakes up after a nap and just hangs out in there. I can hear him talking and wonder what is he saying. I thought to my self he needs something to see that will help him with his letters but also be fun to look at. I have to admit I am also on the lookout for a giant cat poster lol he would be in heaven if he had one!

Alpha Tot has a really cute and quality ABC Vehicles poster called "Things that Go". It had many of the vehicles he loves on the poster. "L" for Locomotive, (Yeah Thomas!) "D" for Dumptruck (We just got one and he adores it) "S" for Stroller (Can't live without ours!) and "J" for Jetski ( He has the cutest ride on jetskit that plays music and he dances to it). I thought this was a great poster and I showed him the stuff around the house that we had matching to the poster and said the word. I know if I show him enough times he will figure out the words for his stuff. We have it just hanging on the wall for now but are going to get a frame to protect it.

Alpha Tot posters are made by an artistic mom who wanted to create an ABC poster that had something other than the average A for Apple, B for Banana type of poster. The poster is 18" x 24" and printed on recycled paper with soy ink.

Skip Hop Dash Deluxe Diaper Bag Review

I recently had a messy situation with my last diaper bag. It involved bananas, yogurt and the stroller falling over as soon as we took out our son. When ever we put the diaper bag onto the stroller it would go on there very awkwardly and made it unbalanced when it was not being sat in. I had a banana and a container of yogurt in the bag and when it fell over the banana  mushed out everywhere and the yogurt pack broke open. I reached into the bag and felt a slimy icky mess! Our last diaper bag was not a good one. It has just one big opening with only one zipped pocket and a side bottle holder that constantly let the bottle fall out.

I knew we need a high quality diaper bag that had many pockets and could easily stay on the stroller. I did a mini happy dance when I found the Skip Hop line of bags. The Dash Deluxe is made to be stroller friendly. What mom who has a stroller doesn't have a diaper bag right! It was a perfect fit for me. I loved the color and pattern selections, it took me a few hours to decide which one I wanted. I went with the Wave Dot pattern. It matched our First Years Brand stroller perfectly! The nice thing is its a cool bag so my hubby will still carry it lol. I almost got a flowery one but then realized he would not want to carry it. Boys I tell ya!

I love how many pockets are on my Skip Hop bag, plus I like the name too! There are 11 and most have zippers or a snap closure. I could easily fit everything we had in our old one and it never makes the stroller fall over. I wish I had this bag from the beginning! It comes with a cushioned changing pad and the bag is PVC free. The bag has a removable shoulder pad that can easily be tucked away for when you are hanging it on your stroller and easily placed back on to carry it on your shoulder. I am really happy with this bag and now have room to store all the items I need for my son and not have to have them stuffed into one compartment. I bought him a pair of cute little sandals and he would not wear them so thankfully I had extra pockets on the bag to store them for when he decides to let me put them on him.

The bag fits perfectly on our stroller!

Skip Hop has so many other great diaper bags on their site as well as bibs, bedding, paci pockets, toys, kids backpacks and so much more. They have a new line of called "Treetop Friends" that is just adorable! They have little owls, tress and branches on them. So cute!

You can learn more about their products by visiting their twitter and facebook pages. A great thing about their company is a portion of their sales goes to charities that benefit woman and children.

Bring Back Beatrice 1,108 Baby Names Book Review and Giveaway

Bring Back Beatrice 1,108 Baby Names with Meaning, Character and a Little Bit of Attitude by Jennifer Griffin is a cool book to have for baby names. The book is full of classic names and names that are not used as much anymore. Sometimes with trendy or little kid types of names we forget they will be adults one day. Before I named my son I tried to rhyme it with things, think of what other kids might call him, and other wild things I thought up. I wanted to be sure it would be cute as a kid but manly as an adult.
I found my sons name in there and it said it was a high brow classic name and a superior choice! So cool! My name mentioned peace,  I am very mellow and want everyone to be happy! We are hoping in the next year or so to have another child and this book will definitely come in handy. My husband laughed and said it would work for naming pets too!

Some of the girls names I liked were Ruth, Leah, Eileen, Chelsea and Audrey. Then there is Beatrice which means one who brings joy! This book would also help with middle names which sometimes can be harder to pick.

The boys names I like are Madden, Matthew, Cohen, and Spencer. Books like this one make me want more kids to name them something awesome. Don't worry I won't have another baby just for a cool name lol maybe we will  get a fish tank and I will name them all!

I enjoyed that the book has facts and lists of names and nicknames from different sources. There are lists of names like "funny girls" and "wonder woman" and some kings and queens names. This is a fun book!

They have 5 designs to chose from an apple, a heart, a butterfly, the background of a city and a tie. We went with the tie, I thought it would be a good choice for us. SnackTAXI Reusable Snack and Sandwich Bags Review and Giveaway

In our house I have turned into a baggie addict. I put everything in plastics bags. Food, crayons, snacks, baby wipes, anything you can think of I put it in a plastic bag. I feel horrible about it! I hate that I am using so much plastic and it goes in the trash. The other day when my son was in his stroller he reached up and grabbed a baggie with happy baby puffs in it, he loves those and ravaged the bag with his teeth. It happened in seconds and he bit the baggie. I was so upset that he could have been hurt by having plastic in his mouth! I knew we needed a solution to all the plastic baggies in our lives.

I have seen on the net reusable baggies but never knew how important they really were. I want to be more earth friendly and this is a small but great way to do it. Plus I can save so much money on not constantly buying plastic baggies.

The SnackTAXI products are sewn in the founders home based workshop by local sewers and the vow to never outsource. The bags are made of 100% cotton and lined with nylon. The nylon has been tested and confirmed to be lead, phthalate and BPA free! They can be machine washed or hand washed and air dried. They recommended emptying them after using them so the fabric doesn't absorb the oils that some foods contain. We will make sure to empty out our crumbs to prolong the life of these cute bags.

We used the snack bag, smaller one, to carry my sons favorite puffs in his baby bag . The sandwich bag, the larger one for my snack , a peanut butter sandwich! They are really cute and a mom at the mall play yard asked me where I got them from. I really love the owl one! The blue circle ones were perfect since our new diaper back has a similar pattern.

Set you can WIN!

Power Capes Personalized Superhero Cape Review and Giveaway

Living in a house full of boys we are always playing superhero's of some kind and with the boys being home more now that I am out of the corporate world we are always finding ways to use our imaginations. I am trying to be home more and to let the boys just be boys. It seems that most things lead back to some superhero saving the day and JJ thinking he needs to fly around to do so! Power Capes are an awesome addition to our many imagination props! Power Capes makes custom superhero capes and accessories for children. They even have them in adult sizes, you know you want one ;)

They offer already made capes with a choice of emblem or a solid color, a custom superhero cape or an entire superhero costume. If you order a custom cape there are 3 sizes to chose from, they come in a child 2 all the way up to adult sizes. To start they have tons of options for the main color of the cape, lots of emblems of the center, then you chose the letter you want in the middle of the emblem. As you make your choices and you are literally building the cape to your custom needs. They also give you a preview of what your cape will look like as you build it. Very easy and very fun to create with your child or as a gift to give. We went with the "Superman" style of red cape and blue letter (that's Superman style right) cause he is a character that comes out pretty often around here. My son beamed and squealed when we opened our special delivery and saw it was a superhero cape! He had to put it on right away and we have been in Superhero bliss ever since :)

Look how serious he takes this Superhero business!

One thing I liked about the company is that they every month they give away their products, so you have a chance to win every time you enter their contest. Another thing I really like is they offer a fund raising opportunity. Here is how it works:

1
)Donate a Cape Program
With our "Donate a Cape" program people can purchase products on our website and the proceeds will go to help your organization or cause.

2) Cape Kits & Team Spirit Capes Program

Perfect for schools, our Cape Kits and Team Spirit Cape fundraisers are a fun original alternative with GREAT profit margins!

3) Enjoy the benefits of our fund raising programs:

  • We sell all the products and handle all the shipping and logistics!
  • Automated purchases via our website!
  • Fast turnaround times!
  • You get a dedicated page on our website!
  • We market your organization/cause to all of our customers!
  • We match donations: for every 10 capes donated we donate an additional one!
  • We provide help with PR and internet advertising!
Pretty cool huh? It is also pretty cool that the capes are made in the USA and made by Mom's like you and me. Now excuse me, I am off to order another cape for Baby L. He may be tiny but if his brother has one he needs one too :) I also may or may not be checking out the adult sizes after all the family that saves the world together stays together!

Coupon Blogs I Visit

The idea for todays posts and giveaways are a way a mom can save some money. Before I was pregnant with my son I had no clue about coupons and the vast world that exists around them. That all changed once I found out I was having a baby. My firsts thoughts were of course joy followed by oh my this is going be expensive lol. That is the point where my saving money adventure began.

I found a few blogs that were ok kinda full of down load this and that and I am not really a downloader too much. I did however find 3 blogs I really used and helped me save me a lot of money. The only draw back I find from coupon and deals is the gas it costs to go round them all up. But if its a place I have planned to go to I definitely will look before I head out shopping. I find online shopping deals to work best for me since it doesn't involve driving.

I wanted to share these sites with you so you can save a little money if the deal is near you. I do not however recommend trying to take part in them all. I would often get coupon anxiety at the thought of I wanted to take part of all the deals but there wasn't enough time, money or gas. So just have some fun with a few deals and relax and enjoy. I would love for you to share a site you know about too so we can all be happy and saving money together.

This site is the first one I ever found ( she does Safeway Stores which I LOVE):
My Frugal Adventures

This one is a really nice group of couponers that blog:
The Coupon Posse'

This site is a good one too, I cant do all the deals since some of the stores are not in my area ( I love her blog colors too!):
Spectacular Savings

Please share great coupon sites you know of in the comments. If you like our blog please feel free to follow us on Google Friends Connect and leave us a comment and a link we would love to check out your blog back.

Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! Book Review

Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! A Mom's Guide To Saving Money At The Grocery Store
by Kristin L. Peoples

Today's economic recession can be felt in just about any area of your financial life. The rising prices of gas, health care and food are enough to keep many of us deeply worried. The subject of this book is about buying your families food and how to make the cost cheaper. Many consumers are already coupon users but this nifty little book gives some great advice and information about making the most of them. Tips such as combining coupons with sale items or combining manufacturers coupons with store coupons are strategic ways to really save some money.

Visiting store websites, requesting coupons from manufacturers, and shopping at stores that offer to double your coupons are all great suggestions for stretching your food budget. With some time and effort, using coupons to buy groceries and other products can really make a major impact in your financial life.

However the authors claim that you can feed a family of six or more on $50 a week seems a bit of a stretch. She relies on things such as getting items 1/2 off or shopping on a Tuesday at a store that offers a 10% discount that day. Not everyone is capable of getting the deals that she does or has the gas money to drive to all the different locations. This book is a good guide towards helping you save money on the one thing everyone has to do regardless of the economy. Eat.

You can buy a copy of Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! at Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com.

Rock N Learn Dance with the Animals DVD Review and Giveaway Winners Choice

There are a few things in our house that we just love. Dancing, Animals, Books and fun DVDs. The DVD Dance with the Animals from Rock N Learn fulfilled 3 out of the 4 favorite things!

I knew my son would adore this movie and I was so right! I watched it with him the first time and we had a blast. I always watch a DVD with him the first time to be sure its something I want him to hear and see. The DVD is filled with live animal scenes, real kids and cartoon animated animals.

The learning part of the DVD was when they would start a themed segment like the Farm Animal one. They showed animals that might be on a farm and shared facts about each animal. I repeated the name of the animal as we saw them. He can almost say "horse". He can say "duck" which we learned a few weeks ago and he loved seeing them and shouting what they are.

Barnyard Animated Characters

The dancing for the Farm themed segment was the Barnyard Dance. OH we had a good time. I grabbed his little arms and made him do the animal dances we watched on the DVD. He was giggling and having so much fun!

For the Forest themed segment we got to see bears, raccoons, beavers and so much more. He called most of the furry animals we saw "cat" its his favorite word! I loved the Forest Frolic. For this one and I acted out the animal dances for him as he watched. I thought he was gonna burst from laughing so hard seeing his Mama be a jumping frog! I had a lot of fun watching this one and I was exhausted! That is a good thing though since as he gets older he can dance and get a good mini workout while he watches.

Dance to the Forest Frolic with his frog hat on!
The music to this DVD was really upbeat and rhyming so it kept his attention. There are many great DVDs made by Rock N Learn and I know we will be buying more in the future as he grows and needs to learn more.

Baby Diner No More Spilled Meals Review

Feeding time can be somewhat of a wild time at our house. My son loves to throw anything he can get his hands on. Its hard for him to get that we cheer when he throws a baseball or football but we do not want him to throw his plate at dinner time. Hes funny about it too. He waits until I am not looking then throws it!
While I was surfing the net I found this product by Lil Diner the Baby Diner. It is a invention that makes it so your child cant pick up there plate or bowl off their high chair. It uses suction cups to keep the bowl or plate stuck. The Baby Diner works on any smooth bottomed plate or bowl and suctions to flat surfaces.

I thought now this I have to try! Its a simple item but so useful. He could not with all his might get the bowl off the Baby Diner. And boy did he try! He was a bit mad at first but then gave up and enjoyed his dinner.
I can see this is going to be very useful for us, especially as he gets bigger and stronger. My husband was a bit like what is that thing but after being able to enjoy a dinner as a family without a plate tossed on the ground or at us he was glad we had it.

I can see bring the Baby Diner with us when we go out to eat. At restaurants he gets really crazy with the plates and most places do not have plastic plates. So him throwing those is nerve wracking. I will definitely be packing in it the baby bag anytime we go out. I think I may need one for the house and on for on the go!
You can buy your own Baby Diner from Lil Diner on their website for $9.99 or at Sears.com and Overstock.com

HappyBaby Food Review and Giveaway

With my second child I started to make my own baby food in the blender, cheap and relatively easy. As my son gets older and needs to branch out his eating habits, as well as needing a quick and easy way to feed him when I am on the go (and I am ALWAYS on the go) I am finding that HappyBaby Foods have not only organic and 100% natural ingredients, my son is loving them all! He is just starting to pick up food and put it in his mouth and the HappyBaby Puffs (organic of coarse) and HappyBaby Melts have been his snack of choice. HappyBaby carries lots of great products like HappyBaby Pouches (a meal in a pouch you just squeeze on to the spoon...genius!), HappyBaby Munchies, HappyBaby Bellies (organic cereal), HappyBaby Frozen (cubes of food that you heat and serve), and much more. They also now have New Eco-friendly pouches, even better in my book.

Here is their mission statement:
