As a kid we lived in Southern CA I was lucky enough to have a wonderful year that my sister and I took horse back riding lessons. I was one of those kids that if I had my own pony I would be over the moon happy. Where I would put this pony and how I would take care of it were the last things on my mind.
I loved showing up for lessons. Not only did we get to learn how to ride them we also were taught how to care for them. We were able to brush them, clean their hoofs, put on and take off all the gear and learned how to behave around them. Its an experience I will never forget. It was amazing.
So even if you dont own a horse you or your children can experience horse back riding through lessons. The main thing you need to have for horse back riding is a good pair of riding boots. Like with any sport your shoes make a big difference in the experience. I remember mine, they were so cool to me long after we stopped taking lessons.
