Thank You Zondervan Kidz Book Donation and Review

I have enjoyed reading books to my son since the day he was born. Reading is something I have been taught by my own parents to love. There is an adventure waiting in each book and lessons to be learned. I have been able to read my son Zondervan Books and do so proudly. I grew up loving the Berenstain Bears and am thrilled to be able to share the Bear Family adventures with him. He loves to sit on my lap or in his little car chair and look through the books. He reads them to me in his own way as he describes to me what he sees in the illustrations. Earlier in the month I participated in the Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Big Help book drive and Zondervan Publishing was excited to help. They sent us books to donate and books for my son to have.

We read The Berenstain Bears Faith Gets Us Through and God Made the Seasons.  Both are great books!

Follow Brother and Sister Bear through the seasons of the year Bear Country style, doing everything from swimming and biking to sledding and studying. I liked reading this one to my son since we are getting ready for the fall. Summer time stuff like swimming is no longer an option but we have fun fall time stuff to look forward to.

The Bear Scouts hope to earn their Cave Adventure Merit Badges with Scoutmaster Papa’s help. While learning all about caves from Papa the cubs also learn a lesson about counting on God to guide them too.  I like this one! As parents are kids look to us for answers and know how, we don't always have it but can rely on Christian teachings to help us help them.

Along with the Berenstain Bear books we were sent one of my favorite Christian children books The Jesus Storybook Bible.

The Jesus Storybook Bible is a beautifully illustrated book for kids and adults to enjoy together. In The Jesus Storybook Bible, every story whispers his name. It tells the story beneath all the stories in the Bible. We were able to donate a wonderful Italian Duo-Tone binding copy of this book to the kids at Home Start. The binding on this book is perfect for keepsake gifts. This book has been printed in 17 different languages so it can be shared with kids all over the world. I love that!

Our book donation to Roseville Home Start that included Zondervan Kidz books.

THANK YOU Zondervan Kidz Publishing for your contribution to the Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Book Drive. The kids at Roseville Home Start are thankful for the books they received. You can purchase the Zondervan Kidz books mentioned in this post and see the other great books they carry online at Zondervan.com

To learn more about Zondervan  you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
For more info on The Jesus Storybook Bible you can follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

 * I was not paid or compensated for this post. I was sent a free copy of some of the books for my review by the publisher/PR company. The opinions are 100% mine and may vary from others.

Clearance Items you can actually use ROCK!!!

While cruising around Walmart this weekend I came across some Clearance "Back to School" items. I know that the Back to School craze is over but there are still some really great folders and paper products out there at a great price.

I found these file folders and paper pads for 20 cents each!! That's right for less than a dollar I got all four items. What a score!! The file folders are a 3 pack so really I got 6 folders for 40 cents! With both the boys in school and my husband as well, I NEED to organize our schedules. I found that the inside of our pantry is the best place to keep the calendar and all of our other important papers.

Here is the inside of out pantry door and you can see how I already added my new apple folder and paper pad!! Everyone in the family is color-coded so that if they take a quick glance at the calendar they know if the event is for them or not :) Getting organized and keeping our schedules is an ongoing task for me and I am always looking for bright and colorful ways to help me get there. How about you? How do you keep you and your family organized?

Happy National Coffee Day!

Hooray! Today is National Coffee Day! We love Coffee in my family. I wanted share with everyone some info on the language of coffee and how to make some drinks.

In honor of National Coffee Day on September 29th, Eight O’Clock Coffee, America’s Original Gourmet Coffee, is demystifying coffee jargon—and explaining how to make a great-tasting specialty coffee drink at home, no fancy machines needed. Behold, your guide to creating a café coffee experience right in your own kitchen, courtesy of Eight O’Clock Coffee!

Latte-
Traditionally, this is made using espresso and foamed milk. The milk to coffee ratio is 3:1.
  • Make It At Home! Use a strong coffee, like Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, and brew regularly. Pour some milk into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Whisk milk as it heats to make it frothy. Pour some of the coffee into a mug, add some hot liquid milk and spoon the foamed milk on top.

Café Mocha- This is simply a latte with some type of chocolate flavor added in.
  • Make It At Home! Prepare using the latte instructions. Before adding the coffee and milk, pour 2/3 cup of hot chocolate mix into the bottom of the mug, add coffee and milk and stir until the mix has dissolved.

Café au Lait- Similar to a latte, but usually uses strong brewed coffee instead of espresso and has a 1:1 ratio of coffee to milk.
  • Make It At Home! Brew Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, steam the milk and add equal parts milk (add this first) and coffee to your mug.

Cappuccino- Usually made with equal parts espresso, steamed milk and frothed milk.
  • Make It At Home! Follow the same instructions as the latte, but pour equal parts coffee and steamed milk into the mug and top with frothed milk. It’s great with cinnamon or chocolate sprinkled on.

Macchiato- A traditional macchiato is a shot of espresso with a bit of milk foam. We usually think of the caramel macchiato, which is very popular at coffee shops in the US.
  • Make It At Home! Make a tasty caramel macchiato using Eight O’Clock Coffee Dark Italian Roast. Heat milk in a saucepan and whisk until frothy, add a few pumps of vanilla syrup to your cup of coffee, top with milk froth and drizzle with caramel syrup.

Frappe- A frappe is a cold blended coffee drink with chilled coffee, sugar, milk or cream and ice blended together.
  • Make It At Home! All you need is 6-8 ounces of cold coffee (we like Eight O’Clock Coffee Original Blend), 2 Tbsp milk, 3/4 cup crushed or cubed ice and sugar to taste. Combine ingredients in a blender. You can also add 2 Tbsp of your favorite syrup—caramel, chocolate, vanilla—some people even add ice cream to make it thicker. The possibilities are endless, so get creative!

Pumpkin Coffee- Virtually every coffee shop has some kind of limited-time-only pumpkin coffee, a delicious fall flavor.
  • Make It At Home! Brew your own pumpkin coffee this fall or any other time of year you feel a craving coming on. Use 2 tsp of pumpkin spice for every 3 Tbsp of Eight O’Clock Coffee Original Blend. Combine the pumpkin spice with the coffee grounds and brew. Sweeten to your desire.

Espresso: A concentrated coffee brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground coffee beans.
  • Make It At Home!  Espresso machines are typically very expensive, but you can come close to the real deal with your regular coffee pot. Choose a dark roast, like Eight O’Clock Coffee’s Dark Italian Roast, and grind the beans as finely as possible. Double the coffee filter, and pack down the coffee grounds into the filter (use 1 tbsp for every 1/4 cup of espresso). It’s a great option that replicates the strong, bold flavor espresso and cappuccino aficionados love.

Camp Blockbuster Program Review and Giveaway 3 Winners!

Blockbuster has been a video store my husband and I have loved going to since we have been married. We love seeing what new movies come out and rewatching favorites. When a few of our local stores closed we were so sad! We wanted our son to have the chance to be in awe of a movie store experience and not just get one out of a machine. Machines can be convenience yes in a hurry but being able to pick up the movie and turn it over to read the back of it is fun for us. My son LOVES to be able to go to the kids section of our local Blockbuster and pick a movie he sees that he likes. We even have cool bean bags in the kids section at our Blockbuster.

We have a monthly Movie Pass to Blockbuster since we love to watch movies. It saves us a ton of money to be able to rent as many as we want in a month for one low fee. With the Movie Pass we only get to rent one at a time. Sometimes this means picking between our movie or one for our son.

After learning about the Camp Blockbuster Kids Movie Pass we were happy to learn he can  have his own pass!

Blockbuster Kids Pass

Just $4.99* per month
Unlimited in-store rentals of all 99¢ Kids & Family movies and games
1 rental at a time
No due dates for rentals on your pass
Also available in 1-month, 6-month and 1-year gift cards.
Visit a Store

My son was so excited about his cool new backpack and movie pass. I asked him if I could see it and he held it up and said "Cheese" lol

Camp Blockbuster is offering families a new and creative form of entertainment as  kids make their way back to school and gear up for the holidays. The Camp Blockbuster Kids Pass is for use in-store and allows for 1 movie rental at a time from the kids section (valued at $.99) at a monthly charge of $4.99 – it’s a great convenience – you never have to worry about late fees. This new Kids Pass offering is also available in 1 month, 6 month and 1 year gift cards making for the PERFECT holiday stocking stuffer or a simple way to bring cheer to kids year around!

I think the pass would be a great way to save money on kids entertainment. With the holidays coming the Kids Pass will be perfect for the classic Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas movies. I know of a few we plan to rent like Charlie Brown, Shrek Halloween and Polar Express! I love to be able to snuggle up with my son and watch a movie at night. When its cold and rainy out this fall and winter we can rent something like Veggie Tales or Sesame Street to have fun while learning indoors.

The first movie we watched is Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs while eating Angry Bird Fruit Gummies. I had a blast hanging out with my son watching a movie.

My son loves to "read" the movie inserts. He wore his Camp Blockbuster stickers all day and put them on his workbook.

But wait. Am I even a dog person?

Meet Chewie!!!

~ By Sam ~

I have never thought of myself as a "dog person." We had dogs in and out of our lives growing up, they were never long term though. My Mom was so busy with 5 kids that adding a dog to the mix always seemed overwhelming to her and to our lives. I believe you are a dog person or your not. My husband's family had dogs when he was growing up that lived for 15+ years. They are dog people. I have questioned whether or not I am a dog person. I like dogs, I want my kids to have a dog growing up but with three small children a dog was not in our immediate future... Until now.

It kind of happened suddenly. My little brother (who's 25 years old) text me two weeks ago telling me that he was going to start working more and more hours at work and he was worried about his 5 month old puppy.

*Side Note* You see my brother is a bachelor living in an apartment in Seattle and got a Boston Terrier/Bulldog puppy. He was only working four hours a day and has a roommate that would help out with the pup when he was gone.

Ok, now back to the text I got. He tells me that he is going to have to figure out what to do with his puppy named Chewie. Can you say Star Wars nerd? Just kidding love you bro :) Anyways he is all upset that he will have to give him up and doesn't think it's fair for Chewie if he has to be gone all day. I feel bad for him and Chewie (who I had never even met yet) and tell him he will figure it out.

A few minutes later the next text I get is, "Do you want him?"

My thoughts: Ummmmm what? A dog? Here at my house with my crazy life? A puppy who has lived a nice quiet life in the city with two bachelors and no backyard, small children or 24/7 noise?

There is a bit of awkward silence (as much as there can be with a text) and suddenly there is a picture of sweet little Chewie. That sneaky brother of mine sent a picture!

My thoughts: Oh dear, he is cute. And the boys would really love him. And JJ was just talking about wanting a dog. And the poor guy would have to go to strangers if we didn't take him. And oh dear, he is cute.

So I text him back that I will have to talk to the hubby.

My thoughts: Surely hubby will say no. We are already knee deep in kids and a puppy is just like adding another baby. Surely he will say no and I won't have to be the bad guy!

I thought wrong. The first question my hubby asks me is how big is he? Oh my he is not saying no! We are doomed. As the day goes on there are many texts between me, my little brother and the husband. And as you can see by the end of the day we had a dog. The next day we took the boys to my brothers apartment in Seattle to pick up their new dog. It was exciting and special. The boys were ecstatic and my little brother was happy he was going to stay in the family. My brother knew that we would love him and he could come and visit whenever he wanted. It has been almost two weeks now and things are going really well. He is just as sweet as can be, loves the boys and is even good with the baby. He is blending nicely into our family and we just love him. So maybe I am a dog person after all? Or maybe not, it may still be too early to tell (wink wink.)

Wholesale Costume Club Jedi Robe Review

Halloween is coming! So excited! This year my son can dress up as something he picks out himself. It seems to change from week to week though! Good thing we are getting great prices for costumes online at Wholesale Costume Club. My husband and I like Star Wars, we are Jedi Geeks! When I saw the Kids Deluxe Jedi Robe costume a few months ago I thought how cute would my son be as a little Jedi. My son would not wear it at first since he wanted the sword that was on the front of the costume picture, so I do recommend buying the sword too! Once he put it on he looked so cute! The robe is the only part that comes with the costume so be sure to look for and buy the other part of the costume. The robe is cute though and I can see us using for more than Halloween.

Kids Deluxe Jedi Robe
The high quality, heavy weave of this full-length, hooded Deluxe JEDI robe makes it perfect for the young JEDI in training. Anonymity and protection is paramount while learning to take on the members of the Galaxy, chief among them, Darth Vader. This robe can be combined with a variety of other costumes to help you achieve the ultimate JEDI costume appearance. The Deluxe JEDI robe does not include the light saber. That has to be purchased separately. Considering, all the accessories it is clear that this costume is great! The Kids Deluxe Jedi Robe is an authentic accessory that will enhance any Star Wars costume. You'll show your prowess with this accessory and be prepared that respect you'll get when they see you are a Jedi master with this costume. This is for any Star Wars fan who wants to make their costume better.
Available Sizes: Small,Medium,Large

My son has informed that he does want to be something else for Halloween this year so we will use this robe for our annual trip to the Renaissance Faire.

You can see online all the cool costumes for kids and adult at Wholesale Costume Club.

Getting back into the groove...

My three kiddos laughing together. JJ, Liam and Ashley.

~By Samantha~

Hi. It's Sam...remember me? The one with 3 small children that seem to consume all of my time? It's true, right now it is all about kids, carpool, and my sweet baby girl. Our lives are so busy but I wouldn't want it any other way! It seems that time is getting away from me and I haven't been popping in here as frequently as I would like. This summer was a whirlwind! We took our family vacation to California and when we got back it was still go go go!

Well school has started and we are finally getting into a routine. JJ (my 5 year old) started Kindergarten (half day) and just loves it. I love having a child in elementary school, there is just something so great about children starting their education. Liam (my 2 year old) is in Preschool two days a week. He is a busy guy who demands our attention anyway he can get it. Ashley is now 9 months old and is just a doll. She is so sweet and smiley and always wants to do what her big brothers are doing.

As for me I feel like I am still learning what it is to be a mother of three, I know I have been one for 9 months now, but sometimes three children can feel like ten :) I am getting braver and braver about taking three small kids, 5 years old and under out by myself. I am remembering to enjoy these times with them because someday they will be all grown up. I find myself in auto pilot and that is no way to enjoy the little things in life.

I am so excited that the weather is changing, fall is my favorite time of year. I love the leaves changing, the chill in the air, pine cones on the ground, apple cider, Halloween, Thanksgiving and more!! I like to think that I am most motivated in these Fall months. I can't wait to share what we have been doing and what we will be doing to celebrate the change of the season. My boys are already talking about Halloween costumes, JJ's 6th birthday and what they want for Christmas!!

Frugal Shopping: Sears Clearance Rack

I cannot help that I am a bargain shopper, I see a deal and I have to buy stuff! I will buy something at full price if its something I want or need right then but often times I wait for a sale. For my birthday in July I got a really cute skirt from Sears. I told myself I should go back and see if they were on sale yet before all the summer clothing is gone. Living in Cali we can wear skirts and short sleeves even into November so now is the time to get a great deal.

I went to my local Sears and saw so much Clearance it was awesome! I told myself only $25 for this shopping trip, if I had not I am sure $50 or more would have been spent. I want to go back later in the week too in hopes things are still there that I wanted. I have been shopping for clothing I can wear to work and found cute skirt, shirt and dress pants for $23.66! I had my Sears/Kmart Rewards card so I was earning points and received an additional 15% off my purchase. Yippy!!

At regular price my total would have been $80 plus tax. Many of the Clearance items at Sears are 50% - 70% off. There were a ton of cute colorful skirts and shirts too.

What great end of Season Shopping Deals have you found recently??

National Clean Out Your Garage Day Kit Review and Giveaway

My cleaning helper! He is always willing to help out.

Have a clean and organized home is something that makes my life easier. Being a mom I need to know where things are at in my home to make the most of my time. Nothing is a time taker than looking for lost items in a messy room. Having the right products makes cleaning and organizing your home much easier.

One room in your home that most people neglect is the garage. You garage can be a great place to use for more than a place to park the car or store boxes in. So many people use their garage as a work space, work shop, work out area and so much more. Keeping the garage clean and organized will help you utilize the full potential of your space.

Clean Out Your Garage Kit

This month on September 8th was National Clean Out Your Garage Day. This day reminds us to clean up the garage and make it a more functional space. The garage is one of those spaces on my to do list but I always seem to just stick stuff out there and not organize it. What can be more of a motivator than having the right items to do so.

I am embarrassed how disorganized my own garage is! I think by posting this picture and seeing how truly messy it is will be my reminder that even though National Clean Out Your Garage Day has passed its never too late to clean up and get organized.

To celebrate Clean Out Your Garage Day I will be hosting a giveaway for a Clean Out Your Garage Kit.

This kit includes:
  • Crawford 16” Adjustable Storage Organizer: Designed for use anywhere in your home, garage, workshop, tool shed or basement, this system is great for hanging brooms, rakes and other lawn supplies.
  • Crawford Sliding Spring Grip Organizer: Grips slide into position anywhere along the bar for maximum use. Guaranteed to never lose tension, the grips can hold hardware, garden tools, shovels and more.
  • Quickie 2-in-1 Squeegee Pushbroom: This 2-in-1 pushbroom is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Effortlessly sweep away dirt and debris or use the built-in professional-grade squeegee to push away excess water.
  • ACE Multi-surface Pushbroom: This durable pushbroom is perfect for sweeping heavy debris, including caked-on dirt, gravel and construction materials.
  • Lysol Sponges: Super absorbent and safe on most surfaces, these sponges can help tackle any tough mess.

I like the red bristles on this brush.  It works great on tough messes in the garage.

Sylvan Dell Publishing: Thank You for the Donation

My family has been Sylvan Dell Publishing fans since we first read The Giraffe Who was Afraid of Heights by David Ufer over a year ago. Since then we have enjoyed reading the cute titles about animals, the solar system, eco-system and more. The illustrations are always colorful.

This month I participated in the Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Big Help Book Drive to donate books to the Roseville Home Start Program. Since I knew my son enjoyed the books by Sylvan Dell I knew the kids in the transitional housing program would too. Sylvan Dell gladly gave us books to donate for our book drive. I know the kids that received the books will treasure them!

My son was so excited to see all the books we were sent to add to our book drive donation. He held up the two he thought were the coolest, he said "Wow Cool". It made me smile a little to myself since the two he liked were the ones that to me seemed California related, earthquakes and oceans!

Sylvan Dell Publishing sent 4 great titles:

Water Beds: Sleeping in the Ocean - "Tuck your little ones into bed with this soothing, restful story. How do marine mammals - animals that breathe air - sleep in the deep waters of the ocean? Water Beds: Sleeping in the Ocean answers this question. Youngsters meet ten marine mammals, including sea otters and bottlenose dolphins, manatees and harbor seals, humpback whales and walruses, and learn about each animal's unique habits. Although the brief portraits are based on up-to-date scientific research, author Gail Langer Karwoski weaves the facts into simple, poetic language. Connie McLennan's rich oil paintings capture the ocean's habitats and its appealing creatures. The story invites children to drift into a peaceful sleep on the gentle waves of imagination."

Panda's Earthquake Escape"Pandas' Earthquake Escape is a fictional story based on a real-life event. In real life, XiXi, a Giant panda did escape from the destroyed Wolong Panda Reserve when the 7.9 earthquake rocked Northern China on May 12, 2008. Author Phyllis Perry uses the adventures of a mother panda, LiLing, and her one year old cub, Tengfei, to teach children about earthquakes, animal survival, and to reinforce a mother's instinct to protect her child. After the quake, mother and cub run from the wreckage. Confused and afraid, they get lost! How will they survive outside their reserve? Will they find food? Will they find shelter? And will they safely endure the earthquake after-shocks? There is something to be learned from every natural disaster, and LiLing and Tengfei give children an opportunity to see it through their eyes. With the help of Susan Detwiler's vivid illustrations, author Phyllis Perry uses a factual event to teach children about earthquakes and animal survival."

The Rainforest Grew All Around -  "Imaginations will soar from the forest floor, up through the canopy and back down again, following the circle of life. The jungle comes alive as children learn about the wide variety of creatures lurking in the lush Amazon rainforest in this clever adaptation of the song "The Green Grass Grew All Around." Search each page to find unique rainforest bugs and butterflies hiding in the illustrations. Delve even deeper into the jungle using sidebars and the "For Creative Minds" educational section, both filled with fun facts about the plants and animals, how they live in the rainforest and the products we use that come from the rainforest."

The Glaciers Are Melting! - "Chicken Little may have thought the sky was falling but Peter Pika is sure the glaciers are melting and is off to talk to the Mountain Monarch about it. Joined along the way by friends Tammy Ptarmigan, Sally Squirrel, Mandy Marmot, and Harry Hare, they all wonder what will happen to them if the glaciers melt. Where will they live, how will they survive? When Wiley Wolverine tries to trick them, can the Mountain Monarch save them? More importantly, can the Mountain Monarch stop the glaciers from melting?"

The donation pile of books for the kids at Roseville Home Start

You can purchase the Sylvan Dell books mentioned in this post and see the other great books they carry online at Sylvan Dell Publishing.

Firmoo Glasses Review

Recently I received a Firmoo black pair of RX Sunglasses and have found them very useful as well as stylish. Firmoo has both men and women's eyewear including prescription as well as non prescription and prescription sunglasses. I ordered these women's non prescription full frame wrap around plastic sunglasses as shown in the pictures below.

These sunglasses have become apart of my everyday apparel. They are very lightweight and the arms of them are slim yet feel extremely sturdy. The design of the glasses are very chic looking being all black with tasteful metal work on the side to add a little glam.  The tint of the glasses are a grey/black instead of brown which is nice because everything you see isn't tinted yellow. You can easily see through them, which also means people can still see your eyes. Here are a few pictures of them on.

Here in Washington we are known for constantly buying sunglasses because of the sporadic weather and often losing them before the next sunny day comes. I am going to take excellent care of my Firmoo glasses and have them for a long time. Did I also mention they came nicely packaged in a hard case, as well as a soft pouch and a cloth to clean them? Everything you need to keep them safe and clean. If you want your own pair of glasses you can click HERE and receive your first pair free! I would recommend Firmoo glasses and sunglasses and heres a way to save money and try them out for yourself!
