eShakti Houndstooth Jacket Review

 ~By Laura

With the winter almost here I know I will need to be buying a few coats. For me as a plus size Mom I have less choices of what I can buy in the store than other moms. I do however find great things online or in department stores that tend to last a few seasons because of the quality of items. Since I have been working more I find I have even less time to go out shopping. Being able to shop online for nice clothing makes shopping much easier for me. My sister recommended eShakti to me since she has a few products from them and mentioned they also carry a variety of sizes.

I have been loving the trend of Houndstooth and found the perfect coat with big buttons that look great! I am in love with this coat, it fits true to size, is very warm and super cute.

Color: Black/off-white
Go bold in our dynamic black and white houndstooth jacket featuring a double-breasted button style on a classic silhouette.

  • Princess seamed to shape.

I have found many other super cute items I would love for my wardrobe from eShakti

Baseball: Go Giants!

My son insists that baseball is Ball Ball, no matter how many times I correct him he tells me " No Mom its Ball Ball". I have stopped correcting him and for now we will enjoy watching Ball Ball together.

On Monday we had a super fun time watching the Giants play in game 7 for the chance to make it to the world series to play the Detroit Tigers. The game was exciting but the 9th inning was crazy. It started to pour down rain! Watching it on tv was great, we stayed dry and could still cheer our favorite baseball team on.

My son had his hat on and was practicing he best swings. My older brother played baseball, my little brother t-ball and Sam and I played softball for many years, we are a baseball family. I LOVE that my son enjoys watching and playing too. I look forward to a few years when he can join a t-ball team.

Who are you rooting for, San Francisco Giants or Detroit Tigers?

Selecting a Wine for Food

The more I learn to cook better food the more I realize that I can make my food amplified if I serve the right drink with it. I dont drink very often but when I do its wine. Each year when the state fair is running we stop in the Wine Gardens to try new wines. The cheese and fruit plates they serve with the wine are delicious. I find it enjoyable to try wines from different regions too. I had not thought about Australian wines until a friend of ours married an Australian woman and they told me about the sun and soil there makes for some great wines.

Cooking with wine can be a tasty way to add flavor to a dish. Wine Selectors has a variety of white wines that pair well with seafood and reds that go with beef. I found one that sounded very interesting, Angullong Savagnin. The Angullong promise is to deliver wines of great regional character thanks to their cool climate vineyards planted on ancient volcanic soils with flavors if passionfruit and honeydew melon aromas and tangy tropical fruit with a herbaceous twist on the palate, thats sounds wonderful!

Classic red Christmas gift pack

They even have a section that list wines that are perfect for a BBQ, how great is that. The drop down list for the types of meat you are eating make it simple to know what wines to pair with your food. Everything from lamb, seafood, pork, beef, chicken and dessert. If you cannot decide what wine to buy for your recipes you can buy a mixed shipment of a variety of wines in a range of budgets. I think it would be fun to serve my guest this holiday season wines from Australia.

You can also enter the current contest running on the Wine Selector website to win a case of premium wine.

I have not served wine with dessert. It sounds like an elegant touch to a dinner party. I found a 3 pack that sounded great. The wines have hints of lemon rind over rich butterscotch with toffee and rich butterscotch and apricot nectar, just the wines sound like a great dessert! I look forward to trying new wine pairings with food.

When I think about taking a road trip my first thought always goes to the first road trip my sister Laura and I took without our parents, our first grown up road trip. Our parents had moved to Washington right after Laura graduated high school, while my sister and I stayed behind in California to continue our own lives. About 6 months into them being gone we were having withdraws from not seeing our family, we missed them and thought it was a great way to see the great states of Oregon and Washington! So on a whim we decided to hop into my car, which happened to be a PURPLE Kia at the time, and headed out on our first road trip together. Before we headed out we called out parents to tell them we were on our way, this was before there were cell phones so we told them we would call them when we got to our next stop and a payphone. How funny is that to think about? No cell phones, must have been the dinosaur ages! Back to the start of our trip, we started out so confident in our decision to pack up the car and go. We played all the classic car games, like the License Plate Game, the Alphabet Game, the Going on a Picnic Game, you get the point, we played a lot of car games. We were singing to the radio and cassette player, hey I told you it was before everyone had cell phones. Things were going great until about 3 hours into our 12+ hour trip, I was starting to get really tired, I was starting to fade. At the time I was the only one out of the two of us that was driving, Laura was too scared to get behind the wheel of a car. So here I am only 3 hours into the drive and I felt exhausted. I felt like I couldn't keep my head up, like it was taking everything in my to stay awake, and it was only 2 pm!! Laura started to worry, she was pumping me full of red vines to stay awake, asking me questions, rolling down the windows, everything you could think of to keep a person awake. It worked but only temporarily. It was the weirdest thing that as soon as I would start to drive I would just fall asleep. Car Narcolepsy? The seats in my car were too comfortable?

We managed to make it 3 more hours and I needed a nap, a real uninterrupted nap. We pulled over to a rest stop, we were planning on driving all the way through so a hotel room was not in the budget. The sun was starting to set so it wasn't totally dark out. I turned off the ignition, tipped my chair back and went to sleep. Laura was freaked out by all of the people passing by so she hung up blankets and clothes in the windows to give us more privacy, we must have looked ridiculous!

An hour later we were back on the road, I was feeling refreshed (sort of) and we were getting back into the road trip groove. Flash forward 2 hours and here I was tired again, no energy, head bopping, car swerving tired. NOT AGAIN. We needed to gas up the Kia and by now it was dark and we were in the middle of nowhere. We finally found a gas station at a questionable turn off, in a questionable area. If anything was going to wake me up it would be the idea that there maybe some animal or God forbid person lurking in the bushes of this out-in-the middle-of-no-where-we-could-be-killed-by-a-serial-killer-at-any-moment gas station. Laura stood watch while I got out, swiped my card, put the gas pump in and jumped back in the car as fast as I could. Then we waited. While we waited for what felt like forever for the gas to pump we sat there in silence, listening to the dead of the night. The nozzle clicked, we both jumped. I thought about just driving away and letting the gas nozzle fall out as we took off and attach the gas cap later, no issues. That could happen right? Then I thought about my car and being a starving student, if something happened to the gas tank because I was being a chicken how would I pay for it? Darn it! I needed to buck up. Laura and I listened, looked around and I got out. When I was done I jumped back in and we took off, not looking back.

Needless to say I drove the rest of the way bug eyed, freaked out and thankful we were still alive. It's so funny to think about it now, I'm sure it wasn't as bad as we thought it was. I'm sure the road wasn't as long as it seemed. I'm sure there was someone working there watching the place making sure no serial killers were in the bushes. I'm sure it was a quiet little town and not a scene from Scooby Doo with zombies and ghosts around every corner. #kiasocialclub

Trying Random Products

While I was out at Walmart over the weekend looking for a cute little San Francisco 49ers outfit I decided I would try a few random products I saw. No coupons, no sales, just wanted to try something. I always read reviews about things and wanted to grab a few needed items but ones I have not tried myself.

The Colgate in CinnaMint is great! I like to use it after a meal since it has a cinnamon flavor to it and not too much mint or fluoride taste to it. I still use other toothpaste before bed but I definitely like this as an after a meal toothpaste.

The Tone Cocoa Butter soap was vastly different than my normal soap in the way it made bubbles and cleaned but I did like how soft it made my legs feel after I shaved them. I will not use it as an everyday soap but its great for a soft feeling shave!

The Degree Girl I liked the packaging lol. Its a pink cap and a chick dancing how fun is that right! I do like this for long work days but on days off I steer towards a more natural deodorant. I feel there can be a balance of types of deodorants used.

I like trying new products. If I do not try new things how will I find things that are better suited for me. I will buy the toothpaste again but I dont think I will purchase the deodorant or soap again.

Have you tried any random new brands that did or did not work out? Id love to hear about your experience.
