A Fall Favorite, Cozy Weekend Breakfasts

Our Favorite Brunches from Coast to Coast

Are you a big breakfast eater? Are pancakes and bacon and waffles or eggs all a part of your daily morning routine?

I know that getting the kids and ourselves ready for the day can be so overwhelming, that even getting to eat a bowl of cold cereal can be a challenge. I remember the days of getting my own children ready for school and out the door, and trying to get something in their stomachs to start the day. It wasn't easy.

As fall approaches, I love the idea of a cozy weekend breakfast filled with all the classic favorites. Yummy pancakes dripping with butter and syrup can always make me weak in the knees. My father was never a man who cooked, like most men from his generation. But come fall, he would make us pancakes with grated apples and brown sugar in them every weekend.
I wish I had asked him how that pancake recipe came about, I'm sure there was a story there somewhere, but I never did. But I fondly remember those pancakes, and the site of him on a Saturday morning wearing my Mother's apron and making them for all of us.

A cozy weekend breakfast filled with family and good food nourishes not just our bodies, but our souls as well. Fall is the perfect time to start a tradition that you and your family will remember for years to come. Just the way I remember my Dad's apple pancakes.

Frugal Finds: Yard Sale

This weekend we are having a yard sale. I thought its a great time to sell some things we no longer need to have money for things we now need. I am very much the type of person who thinks out with the old in with the new. My neighbor is also having a huge yard sale and I have been over there a few times. She has awesome stuff! Her and her husband are estate sale and flea market shoppers and man do they find great stuff!! She had a beautiful mirror for sale and I came back out to ask her about it and it was gone! But replaced with another one similar to it. She has a replenishing yard sale, so cool!!! I told her I would be back on Sunday with some of my money to see what else she has.

I found the coolest little book ends for only $1. The store price tag on the said $40. A great little find for my room. I want to do something with them more colorful or fun, not sure what yet.

Have you found any great yard sale or thrift finds this weekend?
What would you do to these squirrels?

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 Movie Review and Giveaway

My son and the way he adores dogs makes me laugh. I am sure that is how my own Mom felt when I was little. I wanted to save every dog I saw and loved all animals. My son has inherited that from me. Dogs are one of his favorite animals there is. He even acts like one and will randomly bark at people. (If my son has barked at you before so sorry he silly he is just speaking to you in puppy lol)

We love to watch dog movies together. This week we had a blast watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3. We made cheese quesadillas and cinnamon and sugar quesadilla for our movie treat. My son loved the music in this movie too. My boy loves to dance! He was tummy rumbling giggling when he saw the 3 Mariachis dogs singing and playing musical instruments. Its a cute movie about kids growing up and needing space but always still needing their family.

Walt Disney Studios proudly unleashes Hollywood’s renowned pack of celebrity Chihuahua stars in the hilarious all-new movie “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3,” releasing on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, DVD and Digital on September 18, 2012.

Everyone’s favorite talking Chihuahuas Papi (voice of George Lopez) and Chloe (voice of Odette Annable ) are back, joined by their five playful pups in an all-new family comedy. It’s canine chaos as Papi’s family (dog and human) move into the posh Langham Hotel, complete with a luxurious doggy spa. But there’s trouble in puppy paradise when Rosa, the littlest member of the pack, feels smaller and less special than ever. Now it’s up to Papi to help Rosa find – and celebrate – her inner strength, which turns out to be bigger than she ever dreamed and reminds humans and canines alike of the importance of family, friends and teamwork.

Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Book Drive Donation

Today we donated our books we collect from family, friends, neighbors and publishing companies for our Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Book Drive Simple Service Project. I was so happy with all the donations we were able to collect. I am thankfully to everyone that helped support our book drive. Knowing that 61% of low-income families have no books for children in their homes inspired me to need to get books to those kids. Reading in my home is a treasured activity that we enjoy as a family. I want all kids to be able to sit down with a book and get lost in the adventure they are reading. Reading encourages learning, creativity and bonding time with your kids. Encourage your kids to read to you, siblings, family members or even their pets!

All the great books we will donate

We wrapped our book donation and added some colorful stuffing to make it a nice present.

My son and I packaged up all the wonderful books we planned to donate and headed to Roseville Home Start. I selected Roseville Home Start to receive our Champions for Kids Nickelodeon Book Drive Donation because many of the children living at the program no longer have the items including books that they once did. The charity helps local families that have become homeless get back on their feet through job and education training and a temporary home. They provide a home for these families that have found themselves needing help. What touches me about this charity is that homelessness can happen to anyone. A lost job, then a foreclosure or eviction and you find your family homeless. I cannot imagine the stress of that. Having children going through this brings me to tears.

We are bring books and "this book belongs to" tags to the charity today to bring a little bit of joy to the kids that live there. I want the kids to know that the book is theirs to keep forever no matter where they live. My son loves to point out his name tags in his own books before we read them. Knowing its his since he name is on it makes him smile. I hope our book donation will bring a smile to the kids living here.

Roseville Home Start was once a hotel but was turned into a housing program.

Today we were able to meet a few new people that worked at Home Start. They are always so nice about a donation and even sent us a thank you email.

On behalf of Roseville Home Start, thank you for your generous donation of children's books for the families at Home Start. As you know, we are a private, non-profit community based organization that relies heavily on community support. Since 1995, we have served thousands of homeless children and their families in Placer County and beyond. Thanks to donors like you, Roseville Home Start provided 56 families (114 children and 72 adults) in 2011 with a place to live, learn, and feel safe. Our community is a better place because you care.

This was so heart warming to read! I love the last line, we really do care and one person can make a difference. I had neighbors and companies help with my donation but had I not asked the books would not have been given. I love to see how people can come together to help kids!

I encourage all of you to participate in the Nickelodeon Big Help Book Drive in your own communities and to report it on the Champions for Kids website. Together we can be the one of millions to help Champions for Kids meet their goal of helping 20 million people by 2020. It can be as simple as asking friends and family to help you by collecting gently used books. So many of us have kids or grandkids that have books they have outgrown that other kids would cherish. Or get together and have a donation jar for change for whatever money people have to spare for money to buy new books. You can participate by having community group or kids sports teams make a group donation of a few books too. There are so many ways each and everyone of us can find a way to help kids get the books they need. #NickCFK

My son was so sweet today. He told me We are taking books to the kidsies Mom. (He calls kids "kidsies)
Thank you Roseville Home Start for all you do for the community

A big thank you to Sylvan Dell Publishing and Zondervan Publishing for contributing books to the donation.
