Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! Book Review

Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! A Mom's Guide To Saving Money At The Grocery Store
by Kristin L. Peoples

Today's economic recession can be felt in just about any area of your financial life. The rising prices of gas, health care and food are enough to keep many of us deeply worried. The subject of this book is about buying your families food and how to make the cost cheaper. Many consumers are already coupon users but this nifty little book gives some great advice and information about making the most of them. Tips such as combining coupons with sale items or combining manufacturers coupons with store coupons are strategic ways to really save some money.

Visiting store websites, requesting coupons from manufacturers, and shopping at stores that offer to double your coupons are all great suggestions for stretching your food budget. With some time and effort, using coupons to buy groceries and other products can really make a major impact in your financial life.

However the authors claim that you can feed a family of six or more on $50 a week seems a bit of a stretch. She relies on things such as getting items 1/2 off or shopping on a Tuesday at a store that offers a 10% discount that day. Not everyone is capable of getting the deals that she does or has the gas money to drive to all the different locations. This book is a good guide towards helping you save money on the one thing everyone has to do regardless of the economy. Eat.

You can buy a copy of Don't Throw Those Coupons Away! at Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com.

Enjoy the Rides Rewards Huggies Diapers

Do you use Huggies brand diapers, wipes or pull ups? If you do you should really use their Enjoy the Ride rewards program. Its simple to use all you have to do is enter the codes on the packages and get points per item. Often times the facebook and twitter accounts for Huggies post extra codes that you can use. I have won a ton of great stuff from the program. The games on there cost a specific amount of your points to try to win. Its a random winner type of game. I recommend the game with the baby in the tub who blows bubbles if you win. I seem to have good luck on that one!

I have won a hooded bath towel, 4 packs of wipes with refill, 5 packs of Jumbo diapers, 2 Starbucks gift cards and am sure a few more things I might not remember. Definitely worth the time to play and enter your codes.

After I post this I am off to enter my codes from a few wipes packages I have and fingers crossed I win something cool!

Rock N Learn Dance with the Animals DVD Review and Giveaway Winners Choice

There are a few things in our house that we just love. Dancing, Animals, Books and fun DVDs. The DVD Dance with the Animals from Rock N Learn fulfilled 3 out of the 4 favorite things!

I knew my son would adore this movie and I was so right! I watched it with him the first time and we had a blast. I always watch a DVD with him the first time to be sure its something I want him to hear and see. The DVD is filled with live animal scenes, real kids and cartoon animated animals.

The learning part of the DVD was when they would start a themed segment like the Farm Animal one. They showed animals that might be on a farm and shared facts about each animal. I repeated the name of the animal as we saw them. He can almost say "horse". He can say "duck" which we learned a few weeks ago and he loved seeing them and shouting what they are.

Barnyard Animated Characters

The dancing for the Farm themed segment was the Barnyard Dance. OH we had a good time. I grabbed his little arms and made him do the animal dances we watched on the DVD. He was giggling and having so much fun!

For the Forest themed segment we got to see bears, raccoons, beavers and so much more. He called most of the furry animals we saw "cat" its his favorite word! I loved the Forest Frolic. For this one and I acted out the animal dances for him as he watched. I thought he was gonna burst from laughing so hard seeing his Mama be a jumping frog! I had a lot of fun watching this one and I was exhausted! That is a good thing though since as he gets older he can dance and get a good mini workout while he watches.

Dance to the Forest Frolic with his frog hat on!
The music to this DVD was really upbeat and rhyming so it kept his attention. There are many great DVDs made by Rock N Learn and I know we will be buying more in the future as he grows and needs to learn more.
A few on our list of must haves are:

Fishful Thinking Awe Wall

I have this little motto I say all the time. Its to remind myself and those around me that you really can see the positive side of anything. It may only be a speck of it even in the worst cases but its there somewhere you just have to look. Of course I know its hard and I can get wrapped up in the negative but if I declare "P for Positive" it sets me in the right direction. I am sure it might annoy my husband when he is feeling down but I think if I am cheery it will spread to him!

When I was buying Goldfish crackers for my son I looked on the package and saw the website. I thought I love these crackers when I get home I will look up the site. I was so surprised to see the "Fishful Thinking" campaign they have started. This is soooo my type of thing! You can see the site yourself here. I love that  focuses on Optimism (my fav), Resilience, Hope, Empowerment and Emotional Awareness. The site is full of activities for kids and families to share. There is a book club, downloads, and one of my favorites the little Goldfish Guild to Raising Optimistic Kids. I think there is a lot for parents to learn there too. Since our kids mimic our out look and opinions I have found a few things I know I can improve on so he can see me modeling these behaviors.

There is an idea there about creating an "AWE" wall . This to me is an awesome idea! It is a place in your house that put up pictures of things that are "AWE" inspiring. You can put up places, people, activities, inspiring quotes and more. It encourages little ones and our selves as parents to remember the awesomeness of this world we all share and to appreciate the beauty.

Find Pictures for your AWE wall

My plan for this week is to gather up pictures of things I will use to make our "AWE" wall. I am very excited for this project! I hope you will join me in your home to celebrate Fishful Thinking and create an "AWE" wall.

For more info and fun stuff you can be a fan of Fishful Thinking on Facebook.

Baby Diner No More Spilled Meals Review

Feeding time can be somewhat of a wild time at our house. My son loves to throw anything he can get his hands on. Its hard for him to get that we cheer when he throws a baseball or football but we do not want him to throw his plate at dinner time. Hes funny about it too. He waits until I am not looking then throws it!
While I was surfing the net I found this product by Lil Diner the Baby Diner. It is a invention that makes it so your child cant pick up there plate or bowl off their high chair. It uses suction cups to keep the bowl or plate stuck. The Baby Diner works on any smooth bottomed plate or bowl and suctions to flat surfaces.

I thought now this I have to try! Its a simple item but so useful. He could not with all his might get the bowl off the Baby Diner. And boy did he try! He was a bit mad at first but then gave up and enjoyed his dinner.
I can see this is going to be very useful for us, especially as he gets bigger and stronger. My husband was a bit like what is that thing but after being able to enjoy a dinner as a family without a plate tossed on the ground or at us he was glad we had it.

I can see bring the Baby Diner with us when we go out to eat. At restaurants he gets really crazy with the plates and most places do not have plastic plates. So him throwing those is nerve wracking. I will definitely be packing in it the baby bag anytime we go out. I think I may need one for the house and on for on the go!
You can buy your own Baby Diner from Lil Diner on their website for $9.99 or at Sears.com and Overstock.com
